The main Islands of Agistri, Hydra, Spetses, Poros, and Aegina, lie close to the Athens/Attica region and so are in many cases the nearest Island group in easy reach on your entry to Greece. If you are not looking for the hustle & bustle of Mykonos & Santorini, these islands are an exceptional choice for any Holiday & can provide a real getaway. Agistri is an unspoiled paradise. The pretty port towns of Hydra, an island free of cars, and Spetses are hard to match, whilst Poros can provide the ideal beach holiday, and the Island of Aegina with its ancient temple adds an ancient historical gem. As with all Greek islands, no two are alike but there are no bad choices here or ones to avoid. Only an embarrassment of riches.
We suggest a general itinerary involving visits to all the islands, but this is very flexible and will always be adapted to the preferences you indicate, be they more time for the beach, for exploring each new destination, or in finding that perfect restaurant, or deserted beach spot to spend the evening. Prior to departure, we will discuss with you the specific day to day itinerary, but each day your Skipper will also keep you fully informed about the days sailing including any transit times, what you can expect at each destination, and any options you may enjoy, from the best beaches, to recommendations on lots of other aspects from local beauty spots, to where the best fish tavernas are located, so you will be fully informed and can choose the ideal pattern to suit your group.
Our prices include the Skipper and all related costs, and are inclusive of the often hidden extras such as fuel, mooring fees, end of port cleaning, insurance, extra bedding etc. so you only have food & drinks as extras. Yacht type is based on our lowest cost, entry-level, fully equipped luxury Yachts. Examples of which are specified in the respective booking category.

Aegina – Agistri – Poros – Hydra – Spetses
Aegina
Aegina is filled with pretty villages & a main town with lots to see & do
In Greek mythology, the island is named after the daughter of a river god who Zeus fell in love with. Aegina town was also for a time in 1827, the capital of Greece when many fortified & impressive neoclassical houses were constructed and are well preserved & great to see in the main town.
For sightseeing, an unmissable stop is the Ancient Temple of Aphaia which forms an equilateral triangle with the Temples of the Parthenon in Athens & the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, the so-called “holy triangle” of antiquity. The Island has a number of small Museums & was also the site of an important Byzantine monastic & religious community with 565 churches Palaiohóra. The remaining churches and monasteries with their 1000-year-old frescos are worth visiting as are the ruins of the local medieval castle from the period.
Agistri
Agistri with under 1000 island inhabitants is an off the beaten path paradise.
With Azure waters lapping a variety of sandy beaches, pretty fishing villages set against lush green pine forest.
The villages Megalohori & Skala are the largest, attracting most visitors with enough choice in bars & restaurants to enjoy along with their organized beaches. More secluded beaches are found in between and on the other side of the Island the beach of Dragonéra is worth visiting as is the private island of Aponisos with amazing turquoise waters & more secluded beaches. For island sightseeing, there are fewer options here but the island does have some water sports & is great for Hiking & Cycling.
Poros
The capital of Poros is a protected settlement which has lots to see and a lively cosmopolitan feel.
It is lined with cozy cafes & restaurants along its waterfront & is full of beautiful old mansion houses.
For sightseeing, worth visiting are its Archaeological Museum and folklore museums as well as the Temple of Poseidon built around 520BC. Whilst a wander up the cobbled streets of the capital will bring you to its landmark Clock tower for its panoramic views.
Poros is famous for its beaches so a visit by sail is an ideal way to make the most of its many great beaches & crystal clear waters, and stop at the islets of Boúrtzi, home to a Byzantine fortress and Daskaleió, with its small chapel.
Hydra
The many Mansion houses of Hydra attest to its importance as an Historic center of nineteenth century sea power.
Whilst the more recent banning of cars and use of donkeys as public means of transport has kept its traditional atmosphere alive and contribute to its visitors each year.
As you walk along the waterfront, the heart of the town, you encounter monuments, churches, canons, museums, old mansions, statues of famous heroes, the old gunpowder store, shops, traditional restaurants, and cafes, while picturesque winding streets lead you to neighborhoods located at the upper part of the town, as well as to the old neighborhood of Kiafas.
Hydra is also a yachting paradise, as every summer groups of sailing boats moor at the harbor, where they are joined by dozens of luxury motorboats and yachts, and by sail, you can reach beaches like Limnióniza which would otherwise involve a two-hour trek land, or the sandy beach of Ayios Nikolaos, inaccessible by land.
Spetses
Similar to Hydra, Spetses has a long naval history and its old captains mansions also contribute much to the local architecture.
The life of the town revolves around its pretty harbor and Dápia, a tourist and commercial center. If you are a sports enthusiast you may like to time your visit for one of the many events such as the ‘Spetsathlon’ the biggest triathlon in Greece, the “Spetses Mini Marathon” draw lots of visitors each year.
More relaxing is to take a horse-drawn carriage and admire the grand mansions adorning the narrow cobbled streets of the island. And for sightseeing, there are many Museums dedicated to local history. Similar to the islands of this group, Spetses is a very green island with pine forests dipping their branches along its sandy beaches such as Ayia Marina, the secluded Xylokériza, Vréllos: Zogeriá:which is surrounded by forest.
All our Argosaronic sailing holidays can be carried out with either Catamaran, Sailing Yacht or Motor Yacht. However, each vessel type has slightly different suitabilities. Catamarans are ideal for families. They are very stable and are perfect for the short hops around the Ionian Islands for example which have little or minimal wind even in August when the Cyclades can experience windy conditions. Sailing Yachts are suitable for all and are equipped with an engine to assist sail power so all the inter-island distances in each of our itineraries can be covered comfortably. Motor Yachts, without sail, offer the most speedy travel & are ideal for those who want to spend less of their time ‘hopping’ & more time sightseeing.

With our partners throughout Greece and years of experience, we are able to offer many additional exciting options to make your time together hassle-free, and designed to get the most out of your Greek experience. Your skipper’s aim is to provide you with the best experience possible so you will find him/her to be flexible & helpful throughout.
